The 1998 ACCSFF was held at the Merril Collection with Nancy Johnston as Chair. The event featured a reading and keynote address by Candas Jane Dorsey; the reading took place on the evening of June 12, and her talk opened the conference the following morning. There was a special panel on the teaching of SF, followed by four sessions: Gender and Sexuality, Embodiment and Transcendence, Canadian Gothics?, and Guy Gavriel Kay. Dorsey's reading was financed by the Canada Council through the Writer's Union of Canada; the conference itself received assistance--both financial and volunteer--from the Merril Collection, the Friends of the Merril Collection, Ryerson Polytechnic University, and the National Science Fiction and Fantasy Society. |
