Format for Comparative
Education Essay
Instructions:
Your essay should be no longer that 15
pages in length with 1.5 spacing. Please ensure that you spell check your essay before
submitting it and provide reference citations for facts and assertions provided in your
essay. All essays are to be submitted on the last day of class.
Dimensions of a good essay:
(1) Within the introduction to
your essay, clearly identify the specific school to work transition themes you wish to
explore, what your objectives are in writing this essay and how these objectives relate to
specific course readings. Be sure to establish your comparative focus in writing the
essay.
(2) Establish the comparative
methodology or methodologies you employ in conducting the research in writing this
comparative education essay. Be sure to relate such methodologies to course readings and
cite references.
(3) What specific research questions
are you raising in your essay with regard to similarities/differences in school-work
transitions for the countries being compared?
(4) Identify and discuss the comparative
theoretical perspective you employ in tackling the research questions raised. Be sure
to base this discussion on assigned readings and readings you have identified outside of
the course. Cite references.
(5) Present information relevant to the
research questions you have raised, providing clear documentation of references found
through literature review, internet exploration, interviews and all other sources of
information.
(6) Develop a conclusion section drawing upon you comparative perspective as developed in (4); evaluate the similarities and differences in school-work transitions you have located and briefly discuss needed comparative research in the area you have investigated in this essay.
