Telescope, published by Guernica Editions, is a sort-of sequel to Living Room, although you do not need to have read the latter to read this story cycle. The book follows Lawrence Teitel's teenage years as he grows up in the Montreal suburb of Ville St. Laurent. Like his telescope, his experiences cause him to see distances, above all the increasing distance between himself and his parents. In the title story he wrestles with the very different meanings of "heaven" and "the heavens" as he goes through a spiritual crisis. He also faces political questions through the October Crisis of 1970 and the Russia-Canada hockey series of 1972. Telescope is available from amazon and through Guernica's website at https://www.guernicaeditions.com/title/9781771834285 |
