Earthworms exist in gardens that have a layer of dead leaves or compost. Inside this
dark environment they recycle and rejuvinate the earth. Eating through deep layers of soil, they
produce air tunnels that catch water and help the exchange of air, thereby making conditions
possible for the development of other lifeforms. If you are considering planting a garden, it is
wise to check for earthworms. Even one worm can produce two hundred others in only one year.
DIGGING FOR WORMS
WHETHER WE HAVE BURIED THE EVIDENCE OF A CRIME WE HAVE COMMITTED OR
COVERED THE PAIN OF BEING THE VICTIM OF A CRIME, THERE USUALLY COMES THE
MOMENT WHEN WE FEEL THE NEED TO DIG UP THE PAST AND TRY TO RETRIEVE
SOME OF OUR LOSSES. THERE IS SOMEHOW THE NEED TO 'EAT THROUGH THE
DEAD LEAVES' AND MAKE NEW GROUND.
ALL OF US DEAL WITH LOSSES IN DIFFERENT WAYS. FOR SOME THE PAIN IS TOO
BITTER AND THERE REMAINS THE NEED TO LEAVE THEM COVERED, OR TRY TO
BURY THEM DEEPER. FOR OTHERS THERE IS A DESPERATE NEED TO UNCOVER
AND EXPOSE THEM, WITH ALL THEIR TRUTH, LIES AND/OR ALIBIS.
THE PROCESS OF DIGGING AT OUR VARIOUS DIGGING SITES OFTEN BECOMES AN
ACT OF SURVIVAL. PERHAPS IT EVEN HELPS TO PREPARE THE EARTH FOR
FURTHER CULTIVATION.
FOR THIS REASON, WE INVITE YOU TO
SHARE YOUR "EARTHWORM
STORIES" ON THIS PAGE.
If you are interested, please send them under the title of "Earthworm Stories" to the following email address which will be open on a
trial basis for the next three months:
artworks@yorku.ca
(We will be selecting stories we think are really "Earthworm Stories", but we will not edit them in any way. You may, of course, remain anonymous if you wish.)
