Hello,

My name is Alla — I’m in the Future Cinemas course this semester.

1) First, I’m emailing you to let you know that I’ve been unable to log into the
course blog. When trying to log in, there is no option to create a new account
– only the option to put in a username/password, or to have a password
reminder (in which case it asks for a username and email).

At first, I thought it was just my computer cookies, because I’ve used WordPress
before as an admin. After some roundabout clicking, I ended up on the Wordpress blogging website,
where I created myself a new user account. Going back to the Future Cinemas
blog, it still wouldn’t recognize my newly created account. I’ve asked a couple
of friends (not in the course) to try this on their home computers. Neither of
them could create a new account — they would get the same message as me. Just
thought I’d let you know, in case someone else is having the same problem, or
in case I’m missing something.

Hi Alla
many thanks — i’ve fixed the problem — i hope. Do try to register now. i had disabled some features in order to prevent spam over the summer months. please let me know if you are still having difficulties. I will post all of this exchange to the blog.
best,
caitlin

2) The reason I was trying to log onto the blog was to post a message that I’ve
been able to purchase a copy of the Future Cinema book on the MIT Press
website. Everyone else who has the book in their catalogue, including specialty
online stores, registers it as unavailable. However, MIT Press still lists is as
an available text. In any case, they had no qualms about charging me for it, and
it’s supposed to be delivered in about 10-14 days. I also got Soft Cinema from
them, which saves some money on shipping. Unless it’s some mistake with their
catalogue, other students in the class can get these books from MIT’s bookstore
by looking under “Arts” -> “Film”.

Also, I remember taking out this book at Scott library last semester — it was
on reserve at the time. This semester it appears to be off reserve, but still
in circulation.

Perhaps you could post this info on the blog for anyone interested.

Thank you,
Alla Gadassik
