ZKM

Greetings everyone,
Someone has to be first, right?
Since we are talking about virtual realities, I would like to draw your attention to the ZKM, Center for Art and Media in Germany (http://on1.zkm.de/zkm/e/)
One of installations that I experienced and liked there is “The Interactive Plant Growing” (1993) that does, however, not seem to be on display anymore.

In 1995, the artists Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau went a little further by introducing “Trans Plant,” a similar installation that now partially surrounds the visitors. They immerse into a virtual jungle and create plants through body movement.

If you would like to follow up with their more recent work: http://www.interface.ufg.ac.at/christa-laurent/WORKS/FRAMES/FrameSet.html

At any rate, the website of the ZKM is worth visiting and exploring.

Thanks so much, Birgit! yes, ZKM is wonderful. And it was ZKM that put togetehr the amazing Future Cinema exhibition that was an inspiration for your course:

(Thanks, too, for noting that the week’s reading had not all been posted online last week — it gave me a chance to fix them for the weekend.)

    best,
    caitlin
