Here is the link for the TedX talk we saw in class: https://www.ted.com/talks/brenda_brathwaite_gaming_for_understanding#t-167451
“It’s never easy to get across the magnitude of complex tragedies — so when Brenda Romero’s daughter came home from school asking about slavery, she did what she does for a living — she designed a game. She describes the surprising effectiveness of this game, and others, in helping the player really understand the story.
This talk was presented to a local audience at TEDxPhoenix, an independent event. TED editors featured it among our selections on the home page.”

Isbister’s text primarily deals with the affective experience of playing games. As such, I was wondering if we could discuss how this affective engagement impacts how players comprehend history when they play games that deal with historical events? Does this type of interactive and affective engagement with history create more empathy (or other strong emotions) for historical actors than a film or a book would?

Oy…trying this one more time, hopefully with an active link. The summaries for the Labelle/Voegelin readings can be downloaded here:
This provides a good overview regarding the general content & approach of both texts. During my presentation tomorrow I’ll be discussing how their thinking relates to Future Cinema specifically.
