Once a teacher, seeing me with a baton asked
why I twirled left-handed -- the only thing she’d seen me do left-handed.
I looked at her and said
“for knives and arrows and guns and batons left-handed
is best.”
My uncle is left-handed.
Naked in my room, door shut, hands quick as lightening in that mirror,
I practice my baton. And my knife throwing. It's
a butter-knife, but I hold it by the blade. At recess, I
grab girls with my left hand, too.
