ACADEMIC HONESTY
To learn about academic honesty and integrity, please read carefully the following documents, which
include a variety of tools and suggestions.
In order to abide by the University's policies on academic honesty, please follow strictly these rules:
- Read carefully the Senate Policy on Academic Honesty.
- In all your messages, assignments, essays and exams, any material quoted word-for-word from any source must be enclosed in quotation marks ("") and properly referenced.
- In all your messages, assignments, essays and exams, any material paraphrased--that is, rephrased or reworded by you--should
not be enclosed in quotation marks, but should still be referenced as indicated under the previous bullet.
- For information on best scholarly practices in these matters, check the resources prepared by the York Libraries:
Footnotes, Bibliographies & RefWorks .
- While you can, and you are encouraged to discuss your work with other fellow students, the assignments, essays, and exams you submit must
be your own, individual work.
- Failure to abide by these rules will result at least in a loss of points, and may lead to the penalties described in the
Senate Policy on Academic Honesty (see first bullet). If you have any doubts, please send e-mail to the instructor.
