Kwabena O. Akurang-Parry, a poet and historian, graduated from York University in Toronto in 1999 with a Ph.D. in African History. He has held teaching posts at York University and Tulane University. He is currently Assistant Professor of African and World History at the Department of History and Philosophy, Shippensburg University, Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. He specializes in colonial and contemporary Africa, with a research focus on the social and economic history of Ghana. Apart from numerous book chapters on African history, his work has appeared in Slavery and Abolition, African Economic History, History in Africa, The International Journal of African Historical Studies, Ufahamu, Okike, Ghana Studies, Refuge, and Cultural Studies.
