Devin Holterman Devin Holterman is a doctoral student in the Department of Geography at York University in Toronto, Canada. He studies the intersection of conservation governance and the politics of natural resource extraction, particularly the oil/gas and mining sectors in Tanzania and northern Canada. Devin’s research questions the apparent incompatibility of the conservation and extraction sectors and examines the growing involvement of conservation alliances and extractive actors in the securitization of conservation policy and practice and the (re)transformation of conservation space into sites of primary commodity production. Devin is a researcher with the project: Canadian Conservation in Global Context: Intersections with Asia and Africa (CCGC) led by Dr. Robin Roth (Guelph University) and Dr. Elizabeth Lunstrum (York University). He also holds a Masters of Environmental Studies degree (York University) and a Bachelor of Applied Communications - Journalism degree (Mount Royal University). Prior to beginning his PhD research, Devin worked in the NGO sector and as a journalist in Canada and East Africa.
