MEDIA ADVISORY PANEL DISCUSSION AT YORK UNIVERSITY ASKS "WHAT IS ART WORTH?" TORONTO, January 29, 1998 -- How can we judge art and how do we determine its worth? A panel of experts will explore these questions on Wednesday, February 4, 1998, in a panel discussion organized by York University's Atkinson College Fine Arts Festival.
WHAT:
WHO: Matthew Teitelbaum (panelist) is chief curator of the Art Gallery of Ontario. Previously, he was the curator of the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, Massachussetts. He has written and lectured extensively, and taught at Harvard University, York University and the University of Western Ontario. David McIntosh (panelist) has worked as a writer, programmer and producer of film, video, visual arts and technology for many years and has been involved in many aspects of film production. He has worked as programmer for many groups: Toronto's Funnel Experimental Film Centre, Cinematheque Ontario, the 54th PEN International World Congress, Toronto's International Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival. He has also coordinated the Perspective Canada programming committee since 1994. Elaine Calder (panelist) has most recently been the General Manager of the Canadian Opera Company. She has worked as an administrative director of the Shaw Festival, and the Grand Theatre (London, England). Calder has served as a member of several advisory boards and committees involving arts and media, administration, television, the performing arts, the Canada Council, the Ontario Arts Council and Actor's Equity.
