MEDIA ADVISORY ENVIRONMENTAL DECISION MAKING IN THE NEW TORONTO AND BEYOND: FROM RECYCLING TO GLOBAL WARMING TO DOWNLOADING Symposium at York University kicks off with keynote address by former Toronto Mayor Barbara Hall
TORONTO, March 5, 1998 -- A full-day symposium organized by the Environmental Law Society at York University's Osgoode Hall Law School will look at environmental decision making, and how it is affected by local and global changes -- whether they be the formation of the new Megacity, globalization, or increased international trade. The symposium will also feature a keynote address by former City of Toronto Mayor Barbara Hall.
WHAT:
"Environmental Decision Making in the Age of Globalization," a symposium organized by the Environmental Law Society at Osgoode Hall Law School.
Morning Session: "The Environmental Future in the new Megacity: Is Bigger Better?
This session will look at environmental challenges facing the new City of Toronto, such as the effects of the downloading of environmental regulation, changes in zoning and planning, and issues surrounding public transit, waste and recycling.
Afternoon Session: "Globalization, Trade and the Environment"
This session will focus on the impact of international decision making on the local environment, and will cover topics such as the Kyoto Conference on Global Warming and the Multilateral Agreement on Investment.
Former City of Toronto Mayor Barbara Hall will speak about the connection between global and local environmental issues, and the environmental challenges facing the new Megacity: 10 to 10:30 a.m.
