MEDIA ADVISORY PETER GZOWSKI -- IN CONVERSATION: TORONTO, March 19, 1998 -- As York University's Atkinson College turns 35 years old, it welcomes one of Canada's most respected broadcasters to share his insight and reflections on how the nation and his profession have changed during that time. Peter Gzowski's "Reflections on Broadcasting and the State of the Country," at York University on Thursday, March 26, is part of the ongoing celebration of Atkinson College's 35th Anniversary. Atkinson's founders began with the goal of providing life-long learning opportunities for part-time and adult students. Since then, Atkinson has become an integral part of York University. Its unique curriculum promotes the broadening of social and cultural horizons, and offers both professional and liberal studies programs. Gzowski, best known for his 15-year stint as host of CBC Radio's Morningside, has won acclaim and admiration throughout his career as a newspaper writer, author, magazine editor and broadcaster. He has received an honourary doctorate from Atkinson College and from 11 other Canadian universities. He has won virtually every award available in the Canadian media, including seven ACTRA awards, a Governor General's award for the performing arts, and a lifetime achievement award from the Canadian Media Foundation. Gzowski is also the only Canadian to be awarded a prestigious Peabody Award (an American award) for his body of work in Canada. His devoted listeners are eagerly tuning in to his newest show, Peter Gzowski's Forum, on Friday nights.
