Schulich School of Business Hosts E-commerce Summit of Top CEOs

TORONTO, May 24, 2000 -- York University's Schulich School of Business hosts its 10th annual CEO Back to Campus gathering of the nation's top chief executives on Thursday, May 25th on the e-commerce revolution.

Kicking off the event is technology guru Don Tapscott, chair of the Alliance for Converging Technologies think tank and co-author of the bestselling Paradigm Shift, and the recently published Digital Capital: Harnessing the Power of Business Webs. Executives attending this year's conference include: Paul Bates, President and CEO of Charles Schwab Canada; David Bloom, Chairman and CEO of Shopper's Drug Mart; Phillip Donne, President of Kellogg Canada Inc.; Anthony Eames, President and CEO of Coca-Cola Canada Ltd.; Charles Hantho, Chairman of Dofasco Inc.; John Hunkin, Chairman and CEO of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce; Oyuind Hushoud, President and CEO of Falconbridge Ltd.; David Kerr, President and CEO of Noranda Inc.

Tapscott will be joined in a morning session on e-business strategy by C.K. Prahalad, professor of corporate strategy and international business at the University of Michigan, and Ranjay Gulati, associate professor of management and organizations at the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University. This session will be open to the media.

The CEOs will then go in-camera, donning "CEO Back to Campus" sweatshirts and toting note pads for a full-day of classes on business webs -- the electronic networks of suppliers, distributors and customers that are redefining the way companies do business with each other and with consumers.

The rise of e-commerce may be one of the most significant social transformations in the information technology age, underpinning both globalization and the ascendancy of knowledge over traditional capital. Canadian e-commerce transactions -- business-to-business and business-to-consumer -- are predicted to continue to experience exponential growth, reaching $39 billion and $8.6 billion respectively in 2002, according to the Information Technology Association of Canada.

Tapscott and other professionals in business and technology will offer expertise on issues ranging from international business and Internet strategies to the struggle to retain talented employees. The annual CEO Back to Campus conference, hosted by the Schulich School of Business at York, attracts more than 100 of Canada's leading CEOs, presidents and chairs each year.
