YORK UNIVERSITY PROFS PROVIDE EXPERT ANALYSIS ON HONG KONG HANDOVER
TORONTO, June 19, 1997 -- As the world watches and waits for the handover of Hong Kong to China in less than two weeks, York University offers up the following experts:
Bernard Luk is York's foremost expert on Hong Kong. He is a professor of history and a professor at the Joint Centre for Asia Pacific Studies (JCAPS), a co-operative research enterprise between York University and the University of Toronto. Luk can speak on many aspects of the history and politics of Hong Kong and China. He is originally from Hong Kong and speaks both Mandarin and Cantonese. Boon Cham, professor of political science at Glendon College, can speak on Chinese politics and the political economy of the Asia Pacific region. Cham is one of five co-chairs of The Metropolitan Toronto Chinese Canadian Organizing Committee for Celebrating the Return of Hong Kong to China, and the chair of the handover celebration rally taking place in Toronto's Nathan Phillips Square on the evening of June 30.
