Famous Green Architect To Brainstorm Plans For York University's New Computer Science Building --
Architecture And Design Writers Welcome

TORONTO, November 16, 1998 -- As part of the design of our new Computer Science Building, York University's architects have retained the services of Berkebile Nelson Immenschuh McDowell as environmental consultants and their principal, Bob Berkebile.

Berkebile will be visiting York University Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 10:30 a.m. to lead an information and a working session to explore with the designers, operators and occupants of the building ways and means to enhance its efficiency and indoor environment. Particular emphasis will be placed on Computer Science buildings in areas with weather similar to Toronto's.

Berkebile is a well known "green" architect with over thirty years experience who has become a leader of an international effort by architects to develop new guidelines for the design of buildings. He is currently working with the National Parks Service, Department of Energy, Department of Defense, Canadian Provincial Governments, and the National Science Foundation to develop sustainable guidelines for their projects. His current projects range from the Earth Sciences Centre and Institute of Asian Research at UBC to the Greening of places like Yellowstone Park, Grand Canyon National Park and the White House.

You are invited to participate in this program, scheduled for Tuesday, November 17, 1998 from 10:30 a.m. in the Stong Master's Dining Room. For the first session, Berkebile will make a general presentation on the issues of environmentally sustainable design which will be followed by a Q & A session where concepts can be further explored. We propose continuing discussions over a light lunch and after this, those directly involved with the new building as designers/planners, occupants or operators, will continue with the working session. Other invited guests are welcome to participate in this second session.
