YORK UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT AND EXECUTIVE TO DISH UP BREAKFAST FOR CO-WORKERS IN SUPPORT OF THE UNITED WAY TORONTO, November 21, 1997 -- York University President Dr. Lorna Marsden and members of the University Executive Committee, attired in United Way T-shirts, will be offering five-star service as they dish out breakfast to their co-workers next Monday in support of the United Way. Employees in the offices of the President, Vice-Presidents, University Counsel and University Secretariat have purchased tickets for a breakfast of bagels, fruit and coffee that will be served to them at their desks. Marsden, Vice-President (Academic Affairs) Michael Stevenson, Vice-President (Student Services and Enrolment) Deborah Hobson, Vice-President (Administration) Phyllis Clark, University Counsel Harriet Lewis and Secretary of the University Mal Ransom have volunteered for breakfast duty as part of York's annual effort to raise money for the United Way. Each staff member receiving breakfast will have a balloon tied to his or her desk. As they deliver breakfast, Marsden and the Executive will pop the balloons -- and the four staffers whose balloons contain a special coupon will receive a United Way T-shirt. Marsden and the University Executive begin their breakfast deliveries at 8:30 a.m. in the President's Sitting Room, 9th floor South, in the Ross Building at York University, 4700 Keele Street. The goal of York's United Way campaign in 1997 is to raise $97,000, and to improve the participation rate among faculty, staff and students. A dedicated group of York faculty and staff has organized the campaign, which began in mid-October and runs until the end of this month. Fundraising events have included casual Fridays, bake sales, coffee breaks, and a silent auction.
