family in the 70s. In fact, the episode that we analyzed was a Veterans
Day celebration which further emphasizes the American family holiday.
The parents are placed in the show in accordance
to acceptable social norms of the era. The mother is preoccupied with
food preparation and cleanliness. The father is represented as the head
of the house and represented at the prominent seat at the table or on
his chair in the living room. The show tries to mimic the social norms
and family values of the period to represent the family. The show revolves
around the family and confirms the social stereotypes of the time. The
setting confirms to the viewer the show is a comedy because of the humouros
scenarios around the family.
