Bourdieu' s Theory Bourdieu talks of educational capital in the sense that there is a close relationship between cultural practices and education. According to Bourdieu, the working class is typically less educated and therefore subordinate to the dominant group of white middle class males. He argues that this division affects their use of any domestic technology. Gray asserts that women are affected and included in the subordinate group that Bourdieu mentions, and agrees with Bourdieu's theory in that once women are educated, they tend to resist their gender-defined position and notes that this behaviour is also seen in women's use of the VCR. |
