Ecofeminist Beginnings

Ecofeminism contends the spirituality in all living things.  It recognizes nuclear disaster and destruction of the earth as a concern of women.  For example, the Chernobyl disaster created an outcry by women for the resistance against nuclear power.  Feminist theory recognized the lack of focus in environmental issues, and so began the need to protect nature. Ecofeminists viewed women as its protectors. Since the 70's this theory has broadened to include other oppressions such as racism, heterosexist, and pre-patriarchal understanding of history. Yet they all agree on the interconnectivity of the environment and the oppressed woman.
