Seniors' ESL Empowerment
Aim :
To design a project facilitated by HRPGP which:
- empowers senior citizens through communication in workable English language
- improves non-anglophone seniors ability to communicate with support staff
- combats the isolation-related psychological and emotional suffering of the elderly in the Toronto area through increased communication skills
- is sustainable and replicable
Cause:
Senior citizens are a very vulnerable group facing even greater challenges in Canada if they lack essential communication skills in the English language. An inability to communicate in English can endanger their health and their lives as it reduces their ability to communicate with health and support staff. Additionally, a lack of English can contribute to social isolation especially when removed from their linguistic environments and placed in places such as senior homes.
