I have selected an article on Claudius. My essay will explore Claudius' strengths as an Imperator, why he was often perceived as weak and incompetent, and to what extent could this perception of him be challenged. I am starting off my research on Claudius by looking at his character through accounts of his rhetoric and his style of speech... "Claudius Speaks: Two Imperial Contretemps" Author: Barbara M. Levick Source: Historia: Zeitschrift für Alte Geschichte, Vol. 38, No. 1 (1st Qtr., 1989), pp. 112-116 Published by: Franz Steiner Verlag Stable URL: http://www.jstor.org/stable/4436094 If you have some extra time (haha!), I found this other article of Levick's very useful in terms of re-examining Claudius' character. "Antiquarian or Revolutionary? Claudius Caesar's Conception of His Principate" Author: B. M.
