THE REGISTRY OF STAINED GLASS WINDOWS IN CANADA (RSGC) was formed in 1986 as a data-gathering project designed to bring progress and coherence to the study of architectural stained glass in Canada. The REGISTRY, based at York University in Toronto, is an ongoing listing of buildings and their individual windows. Its mandate is to locate, identify and record stained glass windows in Canada, both domestic and imported. Information is stored by hard file, computerized data and photographic file. It must be emphasized that the REGISTRY is not a research project as such, but a data collecting system which assembles and centralizes basic descriptive information about stained glass in Canada. The information gathered is openly available to anybody who wishes to consult the files in order to facilitate his or her own research. Initially funded by the Social Sciences and Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and York University, the project employs graduate student research assistants from the M.A. Programme in Art History at York University when funding is available. Volunteer researchers are encouraged to identify themselves since their help would be greatly appreciated. To date, the project has concentrated on sites easily accessible in southern Ontario and is gradually expanding its coverage to the other provinces.
REGISTRY FORMS Soon, we will be putting registry forms on-line for volunteering researchers. COPYRIGHT |
