This year, for the first time, a camp
meeting was held on the Bay of Quinte circuit in Upper
Canada, which was attended by the writer, being the first he
ever witnessed. It was held in an open field, and the
exercises were accompanied by a mighty display of the
awakening and converting, as well as sanctifying grace of
God. On the third day of the meeting such awful sensations
were produced under the preaching, that many stout-hearted
sinners were bowed before the Lord, while the people of God
were “filled with joy unspeakable and full of glory.” A
great revival of religion was the consequence of this
blessed meeting, particularly in the Bay of Quinte and
Augusta circuits, which eventuated in the conversion of
hundreds of precious souls.
