To obtain the articles from E-Stat, use a yorku.ca account and a computer that is equipped with Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can download Adobe Acrobat Reader from the internet. Normally, the E-Stat program will enable you to complete the download successfully.
Follow the following steps:
1. In Netscape or Microsoft Explorer, type http://estat.statcan.ca
2. At the E-Stat opening page, choose english. Click on English
3. The ‘Welcome to E-Stat’ page will open. At the bottom of the page, click on Accept
4. The ‘ E-Stat - Table of Contents’ page will open. To get to the articles, in the second line of the page, click on Articles
5. The ‘ E-Stat - Table of Contents’ page will open again but green arrows will appear on either side of Articles at the top of the page. Scroll down the page to the section entitled ‘People’. On the right side of this section, you will see ‘Population and demography’ and ‘Social conditions’. Click on Population and demography
6. The ‘E-Stat Articles, Population and Demography’ page will open. Scroll down the page for the titles that you want. For example, if you want the article entitled ‘ 100 Years of Immigration in Canada,’ by M. Boyd and M. Vickers, click on 100 years of immigration in Canada
7. The article will appear in Adobe Acrobat Reader. A security window may open asking whether you want the article downloaded to a disk or to the screen. Once you reply, the article should appear.
8. Return to the ‘E-Stat Articles, Population and Demography’ page to find other articles under this topic.
9. Return to the ‘E-Stat - Table of Contents’ page and follow the same procedures to find relevant articles under ‘Social conditions’
