SSHRC Information Session
Tuesday, July 21 ORA is coordinating an information session for those faculty members considering submitting an application to this fall's SSHRC competition (deadline: October 15). The session will be led by Professor Vijay Agnew (Social Science, Faculty of Arts). It is a general information session that will be of interest to all potential applicants to SSHRC's Standard Research Grants Program. In addition, specific strategies will be discussed for current grant holders applying for additional funds, and previously unsuccessful applicants who are re-submitting. Please confirm your attendance by contacting ORA at -55055 (research@yorku.ca). Potential applicants who are unable to attend this session should contact ORA to ensure that they receive the up-dated application forms. NSERC Information Session
Monday, July 20 ORA is coordinating an information session for those science-related faculty members who are in the process of preparing an application for this fall's NSERC research and/or equipment grants competition. This session will be led by Associate Vice-President (Research & Faculties) Brock Fenton (Biology, Faculty of Pure & Applied Science). The session will cover a variety of topics, including a discussion of strategies for a successful application. Therefore, it will be of interest to all applicants, including first-time applicants who may not be familiar with NSERC, as well as re-applicants with on-going awards who are now re-applying for continuous funding. Please confirm your attendance by contacting ORA at -55055 (research@yorku.ca). Canada Council John G. Diefenbaker Award This award is intended to enable a distinguished German scholar in the social sciences and humanities to participate in the activities of a Canadian institution and to interact more extensively with other North American research communities by visiting other institutions in Canada and the United States. This 12-month award consists of $75,000, plus $20,000 in travel costs. Candidates do not apply for this award, but instead must be nominated by a host university. Deadline: November 1. Names of recommended nominees must be received by ORA by September 1, in order to allow enough time to prepare the nomination. Max Bell Foundation Grants The Max Bell Foundation supports innovative endeavours by Canadians that bear the promise of the widest possible impact. There are three fields that the Foundation funds: * health, to develop sound policies and promotion of health; * Canada and the Asian Pacific, to enrich the Canadian-Asian Pacific relationship; and * Veterinary Sciences and Education, to contribute to the enhancement of veterinary care and education and their overall contribution to animal and human welfare. These one- to three-year grants range from $5,000 to $200,000. Deadline: early September The Office of Research Administration (ORA) would like to remind faculty members of these research opportunities with upcoming deadlines. Deadlines listed are those of the granting agencies. Applications for external sources of funding (i.e., outside York) must be submitted to ORA before forwarding them to the agencies. To assist in meeting these deadlines, it is recommended that applications be submitted to ORA one to two weeks prior to the deadline dates. For more information, please contact ORA at -55055 in S414 Ross Building (e-mail: research@yorku.ca). |
