National Cancer Institute of Canada Canadian Tobacco Research Initiative Funding under the Canadian Tobacco Research Initiative supports the development of proposals for highly relevant research in tobacco control, for ultimate submission to traditional research funding sources. Grants of up to $30,000 are being offered to catalyse the development of strong research teams or research networks. They will support the development of multisectoral and multidisciplinary research proposals in tobacco control. Deadline: Sept. 1. Canadian Health Services Research Foundation Communications Infrastructure Development Grants Funding is available to support projects that will improve the synthesis and dissemination of research relevant to those managing and making policies for the health sector. The purpose of the fund is to improve the capacity to communicate the results of research to decision makers and policy makers in the health system. The duration of the research is 12 months. Deadline: Sept. 1.
Ontario Mental Health Publications, Conferences and Other Public Events The OMHF aims to promote the mental health of people living in Ontario, to prevent mental illness and improve diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. In addition to the OMHF's regular research and equipment grants, and fellowship programs (deadlines for 1999: September 24 and November 12, respectively), the OMHF operates a modest program to support publications, conferences, and other public events that cannot be readily classified as publications or conferences. The maximum for any award in this program is $2,500. Deadline: Applications may be submitted at anytime. Kokugakuin University Visiting Researcher Program The Visiting Researcher program supports visiting scholars wishing to pursue research in fields related to Japanese culture. The program provides round-trip airfare, ¥150,000 monthly living allowance, ¥100,000 research grant, and private dormitory room. The duration of the visit is one year (April 1 to March 31).
