Sabbatical Leave Fellowship Fund
ORA would like to remind 1999-2000 sabbaticants that applications to the Sabbatical Leave Fellowship fund are due on January 15. These research funds are intended to provide sabbaticants with funds to cover direct research costs associated with a program of work. Costs can include employment of research assistants, photocopying, computers, equipment, books, stationery, films and tapes, and travel. Applicants may request up to 10 per cent of academic base salary, to a maximum of $10,000.

NSERC
Extended Hours
ORA is extending its office hours until 8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, October 28 and 29 to assist those faculty members submitting applications to the upcoming NSERC competitions for research and equipment grants. Applications must be received by NSERC in Ottawa by November 2. ORA will undertake to forward all applications to NSERC which are received in ORA by noon on October 29.

Singapore-Ontario Joint Research Program
The Singapore-Ontario Joint Research Program supports research in the fields of: environmental and resource management technologies; biotechnologies; communications and information technologies; manufacturing and materials technologies. The aim of this program is to encourage technological cooperation through strategic alliances, at the individual level among research scientists and engineers, at the institutional level and between companies of both regions. The fund provides up to S$200,000 for the Singapore component of the project and Can$200,000 for the Ontario component. The funding can be augmented by industry and/or other organization. The duration of the funding is two years.

Major Collaborative Research Initiatives (MCRI)
Faculty members who are submitting a letter of intent to SSHRC's MCRI program must submit a draft to ORA by November 15. MCRI provides large-scale funding of up to $2.5 million for up to five years to social science and humanities research projects. The main objective of the program is to strengthen Canadian research capacity in the social sciences and humanities, with emphasis on promoting high quality research and training in a collaborative environment.
