Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Special Research Program This opportunity supports research and development that leads to the improvement of productivity, profitability and competitiveness of the Ontario agri-food and rural sectors. Its specific objects are to develop new value-added food products for Ontario agricultural products, to develop new non-food products, alternative crops and alternative livestock for Ontario, to enhance the viability and sustainability of agricultural and rural communities, to research issues related to the environment, and to research issues related to antimicrobial resistance. Language Teaching Grants The Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI) is a unique educational enterprise that promotes understanding between India and Canada, mainly through facilitating academic activities. The Institute funds research, links institutions in the two countries, and organizes seminars and conferences. Language Teaching Grants provide up to $5,000 to encourage the teaching of Indian languages during the Summer session by subsidizing a grant towards an instructor's salary. Seed Grants for India Studies provide up to $5,000 to support events or activities that may have a catalytic effect in promoting or enhancing India studies. Deadline: Feb. 1
Energy, Science and Technology Telecommunications Access Partnerships (TAP) This program funds projects that will: * develop shared regional/ community networks that involve broad-based public and private sector partnerships. These networks should improve access to advanced information highway applications and services for residents, businesses and public bodies, particularly in rural areas and small communities; * develop advanced network initiatives that demonstrate the potential for significant improvements in the ways of doing business in various sectors, including the broader public sector; and * develop leading-edge network initiatives that support or link major R&D activities. They should also contribute to the development of a province-wide, shared backbone network equal to or better than those in other jurisdictions throughout the world. Deadline: Feb. 14
