SSHRC Through CURA, SSHRC supports the creation of special university-community alliances that through a process of ongong collaboration and mutual learning, will: * foster innovative research, training and the advancement of knowledge in areas of importance for the social, cultural or economic development of communities; * promote sharing of knowledge, resources and expertise between universities and organizations in the community; enrich research, teaching methods and curricula in universities and reinforce community decision-making and problem-solving capacity; and enhance students' education and employability through diverse opportunities to build their knowledge, expertise and work-face skills through hands-on research and related experience. Funding can be used to support a diverse range of innovative research, training and related activities that will enhance mutual learning and horizontal collaboration between community organizations and university; and contribute to the social, cultural and(or) economic development of communities. Funding is available for up to $400,000/year for three years. Deadline: April 1 for letters of intent; Oct. 1 for full proposals Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange Grant Programs The purpose of the foundation is to promote the study of Chinese culture and society. Categories of grants available include conference / seminar / workshop grants (to support conferences and/or workshops on specific subjects related to the foundation's goals and objectives), subsidies for publication (to support publication of scholarly works related to the goals of the foundation), and travel grants (to help fund faculty members to present papers at conferences on subjects relating to Chinese studies). Deadline: March 15 Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Grants The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation supports Canadian based breast cancer research, focussing on providing 'seed' funding to initiate new projects with the anticipation that the investigator will seek on-going support from other sources once the project is underway. Deadline: April 1 European Cultural Foundation Grants Program The European Cultural Foundation promotes cultural and educational activities and research of a multinational nature and a European character. To achieve this aim, the ECF develops its own projects and supports external projects through its grants program. Priorities are: the Mediterranean area; Central and Eastern Europe; and cultural pluralism. Grants are available between ECU 2,500 and ECU 25,000.

Applications for external sources of funding (i.e., outside York) must be submitted to ORA before forwarding them to the agencies. To assist in meeting these deadlines, it is recommended that applications be submitted to ORA one to two weeks prior to the deadline dates.
