Research Fund March 10 Canada Council: Literary Readings and Literary Festivals with Canadian Writers Canada Council/NSERC New Media Initiative This program is offered co-jointly between Canada Council and NSERC. Its aim is to foster collaborations between artists researching and creating in new media and scientists and/or engineers developing and applying new technologies and knowledge. The fund encourages and supports eligible artists and scientists to collaborate with each other in areas of interest to both. Projects involving independent new media art research and creation and related science and engineering research are eligible for support. Deadline: March 1 Canadian Breast Cancer Research Initiative (CBCRI) The CIHR and the CBCRI have announced that the CIHR will reopen its operating grants competitions to applications in the area of breast cancer research. Effective immediately, breast cancer researchers can apply to CIHR beginning with its March 2002 competition. Deadlines: March 1 and Sept. 1. (CIHR applicants are reminded that they must register their intent to apply for an Operating Grant one month prior to the deadline.) Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) New Opportunities Fund New faculty members are reminded that they can apply for this fund which provides infrastructure support to newly recruited academic staff. Infrastructure is defined as equipment, specimens, scientific collections, computer software, information databases, communication linkages, and other intangible properties, used or to be used primarily for carrying on research, including housing and installations essential for the use and servicing of those things. CFI will provide funding for up to 40 per cent of the eligible costs, and the University will assist applicants in seeking additional funding sources. Deadline: March 1 NATO Cooperative Science and Technology Program To initiate research cooperation and to establish enduring personal links between scientists of the NATO and Partner countries. The specific support mechanisms available are Collaborative Linkage Grants and Expert Visits, and to organize Advanced Study Institutes and Advanced Research Workshops. Deadline: March 1 (for areas related to "Physical and Engineering Science and Technology") Contract Faculty (CUPE 3903)
Fund Deadlines CONFERENCE TRAVEL GRANTS Objective: to support part-time CUPE 3903 contract faculty members who are: i) giving papers; ii) have been asked to give commentaries of to chair sessions; or iii) attending conferences. Eligible expenses include travel, registration, accommodation and subsistence. Value: up to $2,000 Duration: NO more than one grant per year RESEARCH GRANTS Note: The Oct.1 deadline is only for research grants up to $8,000, the March 1 deadline is for both the research grants and the release time. Objective: to encourage individual research and study by defraying research costs incurred by members of the CUPE 3903 bargaining unit. Value: Research grants up to $8,000; Release time course directorship grants salary equivalent to one full-course directorship Duration: One year
