Forest Research Partnerships Program


This strategic joint initiative is intended to support forestry-related, university-based research that will promote the sustainable development of forests, the forest industry, and the communities that depend on the forests. It is intended that the research will help integrate environmental, social and economic values, while allowing stakeholders to better understand the complexity of the ecosystem and the importance of this valuable natural resource. Projects are funded according to a matching funds formula; CFS/NSERC/SSHRC may contribute a maximum of two dollars for every dollar invested by the supporting organization(s). Grants can be made for up to three years.

Deadline: Applications may be submitted at anytime.


SSHRC/National Cancer Institute
of Canada (NCIC)

Canadian Tobacco Research Initiative Policy Research Grants


Deadline: April 30.

This joint initiative between SSHRC and NCIC is intended to stimulate research that will influence and guide policy decisions in tobacco control, or have a direct impact on policy decisions in tobacco control, to develop Canada's policy research capacity on tobacco control, and to develop effective public policy around important issues in tobacco control. There are two types of grants: (1) Annual Competitive Cycle Grants, offered on an annual basis, valued at up to $50,000/year for up to three years; and (2) Fast Track Grants, to take advantage of "fleeting opportunities", valued at $25,000 for one year.

Deadline: April 30 for (1) Annual Competitive Cycle Grants. (Note that applications may be submitted at anytime for (2) Fast Track Grants.)


Canada Council

Walter Carson Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts


The purpose of this award is to recognize the highest level of artistic excellence and distinguished career achievement by a Canadian professional artist in dance, theatre or music. The prize is awarded on a four-year cycle - in dance, theatre, dance and music. The inaugural prize, to be awarded in 2001, will be in the field of dance. The award recipient will receive $50,000.

Deadline: April 30

(Note that candidates do not apply for the prize; they must be nominated by a member of the Canadian professional performing arts community.)


EJLB Foundation

Scholar Research Program


Up to $300,000/year for three years is available to support new faculty members to conduct research projects in all areas of neuroscience that pertain directly or indirectly to schizophrenia and mental disease.

Deadline: May 1 for letters of intent; late September for the full application

Applications for external sources of funding (i.e., outside York) must be submitted to ORA before forwarding them to the agencies. To assist in meeting these deadlines, it is recommended that applications be submitted to ORA one to two weeks prior to the deadline dates.
