Description
The BetaSpace project – named after the media industry’s term “beta release” for a project that is ready for public testing – will develop the 4th year curriculum within CMA’s new Media Arts BFA, as well as establish a co-working space that can facilitate interdepartmental initiatives with cutting-edge digital equipment and resources, professional mentorship and collaborative teamwork. Senior-level students will learn experientially by taking a capstone project from conception to beta release, through producing and managing, budgeting, writing, visual design and coding, and dissemination on a professional platform or exhibition in a gallery or festival, providing a springboard to graduation and beyond. By integrating BetaSpace: Fourth Year Media Incubator Course into the core curriculum and infrastructure of the Media Arts BFA, outcomes of this project will include an innovating culture of creativity in digital technologies at York University.
