Toward an Integrated International, Bilingual and Competency-Based Open Education Curriculum

This program is to develop and enhance faculty and students’ capacities to work within the Open Educational Resources model (OER). Students engage in new forms of inverse pedagogies (e.g. hackathons, prototyping workshops and transnational working groups) acquiring a global mindset in civic and social stewardship. By creating OER, students are exposed to inquiry-based learning and are developing virtual mobility skills in (i) network learning, (ii) computational and digital literacy and problem-solving, (iii) interculturality in the context of governance (across sectors), as well as in (iv) translation of knowledge. These OER are transdisciplinary, adaptable for any course, embedded in workshops for international mobility and in York Globally Networked Learning modules/courses. Larger resource development, through cross-disciplinary capstone activities, will expand the program at the pan-university level. Finally, through a program of research and evaluation, the project aims to contribute best practices and lessons learnt on OER at York and beyond.
