Sharesim.net: Open educational resources for simulation in higher education

Description

Simulation is a powerful and innovative form of teaching, learning and assessment. The benefits include situated learning, active learning, the blending of professional and academic cognition and practices, and the creation of more authentic learning tasks.  However, attempts to develop a body of widely shareable and re-purposable educational content amongst simulation designers and users have been variable.  This has had serious consequences for the uptake of simulation.  Sharesim.net will therefore be an open education resource (OER) website platform that will facilitate the use of simulation and related approaches to learning.  Sharesim will benefit at least four categories of users by:

1. enabling communities of practice among faculty to form around simulative approaches to learning
2. showcasing the methodologies of simulation to students and allow them roles in developing resources
3. forming a platform for further dialogue with alums
4. helping faculty to engage with professional learning in most professions.
