Geospatial literacies for all: Enhancing student learning and multidisciplinary teaching and research with digital maps

Description

This project is using a large-format scanner, a sustainable workflow, and immersive learning opportunities for undergraduate students to digitize a selection of printed maps held by the Map Library and Archives and Special Collections at York University. The digitized maps will be catalogued and discoverable online for York students and faculty, and can be incorporated in eLearning opportunities.
The selection for digitization is driven by strategic university objectives (indigeneity, diversity, accessibility), frequency of classroom and patron use, preservation of rare and/or fragile maps, copyright status, and uniqueness to York. This project will also furnish the libraries with the infrastructure to digitize print map holdings on demand to meet future needs of technology enhanced teaching, learning and research across all York campuses.
