The MBA program at York University’s Schulich School of Business was ranked No. 1 in the world according to the results of a global survey conducted by Corporate Knights, the world’s largest-circulation magazine with an explicit focus on responsible business.

The Better World MBA Ranking survey assesses how well business schools from around the world are integrating social, ethical and environmental impact management issues into their MBA programs.

The survey results are published in the Fall 2015 issue of Corporate Knights, and are available online at corporateknights.com/channels/education/11153-14442629. The magazine is published quarterly and distributed through the Globe and Mail in Canada and through the Washington Post in the U.S.

Schulich earned the top ranking in the world, with an overall score of 88 per cent. The survey assesses the top 100 business schools in the 2015 Financial Times of London Global MBA rankings, as well as schools with a proven track record in business sustainability education.

“The Corporate Knights Better World MBA Ranking measures which schools are doing the best job of preparing future business leaders for the environmental, social and ethical complexities of modern-day business, and we are pleased that Schulich has once again been ranked No. 1 in the world in responsible business," said Dezsö J. Horváth, dean of the Schulich School of Business.

Other prominent business schools that placed among the top 20 include: Cambridge at seventh, with a score of 63 per cent; MIT at eighth, with a score of 61 per cent; Harvard at ninth, with a score of 57 per cent; INSEAD at 14th, with a score of 49 per cent; and Yale at 16th, with a score of 46 per cent.

London Business School, Berkeley, Standford, HEC Paris and Wharton ranked 19th, 21st, 24th, 25th and 28th respectively.

The ranking measured business schools in three key areas: dedicated institutes and centres, core curriculum courses, and faculty research.

Schulich scored 100 per cent in the institutes and centres category; 60 per cent in the core curriculum category (jointly ranked No. 2 in the world); 100 per cent in the faculty research – publications category; and 100 per cent in the faculty research – citations category.

According to Corporate Knights, Schulich “earned a high grade in all three evaluated categories with a final score of 88 per cent, including a heavy sustainability research focus among the faculty-at-large.”

This is the third straight year that Corporate Knights has ranked Schulich first overall, and it marks the fourth time that Schulich has been rated No. 1 in the world in responsible business.

Schulich finished first in the world in the 2009-10 Beyond Grey Pinstripes ranking, conducted by the Aspen Institute, a Washington, D.C., leadership think-tank. In the 2011-12 Aspen Institute survey, Schulich was ranked second in the world, just behind Stanford.

Schulich's Centre of Excellence in Responsible Business (COERB) is a global leader in creating and disseminating new knowledge about the social, ethical, environmental and political responsibilities of business, and is also one of the world’s largest and most influential academic centres dedicated to triple-bottom-line thinking. In addition, Schulich has one of the highest concentrations of endowed research chairs dedicated to responsible business of any business school in the world, with chairs in business ethics, business and sustainability, corporate social responsibility, and corporate governance.
