At the Office of Alumni Engagement booth, students learn from alumni Lina Neaga (BA ’16), Project Manager at Nexus Communications; and Amit Deonarain (BA ’13), Associate, Consulting & Deals, PwC Canada, at the Career Insights Panel as part of Fall Campus Day.
Panelists included: “York prepared me for my career through my own professors,” said Lina Neaga, Project Manager at Nexus Communications. “We have professors who are executives in the business world. I was able to ask questions to them regarding their professional experience. This gave me a glimpse of life after graduation that helps me in my day-to-day work.”Fall Campus Day is an opportunity for prospective York University students to learn more about their program choices, tour the campus, and even attend a mock lecture. So it was fitting that they also had the opportunity to meet with and learn from the University’s Alumni, and about the potential that their futures could hold. As part of the inaugural Career Insights Panel on November 5th, the University was honoured to host five alumni on their return to campus to speak to prospective students and their families.
- Grace Palombo (BA Hons. ’84) (BA ’87) & (LLB ’93), Executive Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer at Great West Life
- Jeremy Cammy, (BA Hons. ’96), Vice President & Executive Producer in Events Marketing & Music at Indigo
- Nicole Arnold, (BA Hons. ’12), Lead Counsel for Nicole Arnold Consulting
- Amit Deonarain, (BA ’13), Associate, Consultant & Deals at PwC
- Lina Neaga, (BA ’16), Project Manager at Nexus Communications
Each panelist spoke in depth about their education and experience with the University, and how both of these assisted in carving a pathway to their successes. They spoke highly of the lasting relationships they built during their studies, and how it enhanced their student, alumnus and career experience.
“The advice I can give you is please don’t underestimate what resources are available to you at York University,” said Amit Deonarain. “Grants, bursaries, academic advisors, student clubs, and so on. These can really enhance your student experience at York.”
Students and their families left with a thorough understanding of the resources available to students, including scholarships, government bursaries, academic advising, student clubs and leadership opportunities. York University thanks our panelists for showing their IMPACT on Fall Campus Day.
