TORONTO, November 6, 2018 – A York University delegation, led by President and Vice-Chancellor Rhonda Lenton, is on an India mission to strengthen global ties through educational partnerships, early this month.

“Through development of partnerships, we hope to have more students from India studying in our classrooms, conducting research in our labs, and participating in global educational exchanges that enhance our learning,” said President Lenton during the delegation’s first stop, in Delhi, talking to a group of York alumni, November 1.
Lenton added, “I am passionate about the value of international education opportunities – whether it’s students from around the world studying at York or more students from our campuses in Toronto studying and researching here in India. It’s no longer enough to think of the university as one physical location. We must think and act and grow as a network through collaboration and innovation.”
According to Lenton, the rapid urbanization and economic growth taking place in India along with the country’s young population, presents unprecedented opportunities for collaboration in higher education. She noted that there has been a 200% increase in student applications from India.
Speaking to the first-year MBA students at York University’s Schulich School of Business – India Campus on November 3, Lenton said York’s campuses are always changing to meet the needs of the ever-evolving world.
She highlighted projects such as the development of cutting-edge buildings and research centres like Schulich’s new Rob and Cheryl McEwan Graduate Study and Research Building on the Keele campus in Toronto, which is among the most sustainable academic buildings in all of North America; and new high-quality programming that responds to emerging labour markets among others, to showcase York University’s commitment to globally-thinking students and future world leaders in business and other sectors.
York’s campus located in Hyderabad is said to be the first major global business school to deliver an internationally recognized two-year MBA program in India. The program offers the first year of its MBA program at York’s Hyderabad Campus, taught by the same faculty members who regularly teach at York’s Toronto campuses. In the second year, students move to study in Toronto, and customize their studies by choosing and combining specializations.
Accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Schulich’s MBA, India Campus is offered in partnership with the GMR School of Business in Hyderabad.
During the week-long visit, York’s delegation met with business and community leaders.
