Completing a degree can be a challenge for anyone, especially for students who are the first in their family to attend university.
We are looking for 15 alumni volunteers to feature as mentors for students at York’s First-Generation Networking Event in October 2019. Alumni and students who share the experience of being first generation will connect in order to help students navigate the barriers which they may face.
Mentors will share their own experiences to provide practical and meaningful advice for York’s current cohort of first-generation students in a speed mentoring session.
Alumni volunteers must meet the following criteria:
- You were the first in your family to go to university
- You graduated less than eight years ago
- You are achieving success in your respective field
Interested alumni will be contacted by an Alumni Engagement Officer to discuss the role.
