Since 1999, John Tory has been CEO of Rogers Cable Inc., Canada’s largest broadband cable operator. Prior to this appointment, Tory held a similar post as president and CEO of Rogers Media Inc., one of Canada’s largest broadcasting and publishing companies. He led in the founding of the company’s New Media division, which today owns some of Canada’s best-known interest sites.
Before joining Rogers, Tory was a managing partner and member of the executive committee at Tory Tory DesLauriers & Binnington (now Torys), one of Canada’s largest law firms.
In the early 1980s, Tory was principal secretary to the premier of Ontario and associate secretary of the Ontario cabinet. Since then, he has been involved in more than 20 election campaigns and has been active in campaign management for mayors, premiers and prime ministers.
Tory is a director with a number of Canadian companies, including Rogers Cable Inc. Rogers Media Inc., Cara Operations Limited and the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club. He is involved with many charitable and community organizations and even chaired the 2001 United Way Campaign of Greater Toronto, which raised a then record of $75.5 million.
