The Solar Floatie: Innovating Energy and Social Impact

CooperLab

Project Summary

Our project aims to address the issue of affordable and clean energy for remote and developing communities. The solution we created is a low-cost solar concentrator that generates both heat and electricity. This technology was designed using affordable and accessible materials to magnify the irradiance of the sun twenty times onto the solar panel, creating more electrical output than a conventional solar panel. In addition, our project was also designed to be customizable and adaptable in its implementation to the different needs of various communities. Our implementation framework incorporates the concepts of open innovation and sustainability to ensure local engagement is used in adapting this technology to different community needs.
