Challenge Question
Beyond publishing, how do we send out the oral and written stories created by the kids we work with in grades 3–7 to a global audience?
Partner: Story Planet
Project Summary
Through the variety of workshops offered by Story Planet, students develop skills and confidence in writing and explore storytelling through narrative, dialogue, collaborative writing, poetry, song lyrics, scripts, and visual art. By sharing their writing with an engaged audience, kids learn that their ideas and opinions are interesting and meaningful to others, and that they can be part of a larger, public conversation. By engaging with students’ writing as an audience, adults are able to hear from our youngest citizens. This project aims to explore creative options that go beyond traditional publishing to share the oral and written stories created by students (grades 3-7) with a global audience. Team members interested in this project might have backgrounds in communication technology, design, education, youth and community engagement, and humanities, and should be familiar with (or willing to become familiar with) story hubs such as Wattpad and Storybird. Organizational and web design skills are an asset.

Organizational Profile
Story Planet is a non-profit organization dedicated to amplifying voices and improving literacy skills through non-traditional creative learning experiences with children and youth in under-resourced schools and communities. Our team of professional writers and artists facilitate high-energy workshops that integrate art, writing, and performance and result in a bound book, film, or play. We believe that empowering young people to share their stories, and respect the voices of others, will create a more empathic and inclusive world.
