Humanities
Carolyn is a York graduate herself, and earned her PhD in Communication & Culture. She has worked at York for over twenty years, ten of which have been as contract faculty in Humanities where she teaches courses related to digital culture and experiential education, including capstone courses. She received the Humanities Award for Excellence in Teach in 2019-20, and has been nominated for the LA&PS Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching for the past two years. She has also held the position of Career Development Coordinator for 20 years. In this role she consults with faculty on course design that heightens the students’ development and awareness of the skills, knowledge and interest they develop through their coursework. She also provides career support for PhDs and Post Doctoral Fellows. She has received multiple awards and recognition for her innovation in educational programming, course design and interactive educational media. She is passionate about teaching, and interactive technologies, and creating new approaches to persistent problems. She is particularly excited about participating with the YCN team because she believes its focus on interdisciplinary problem solving is essential to tackle the complex issues we are facing in the 21st century.
