Project Summary

As the number of enrollments at Lassonde School of Engineering increases, efficient data processing becomes a daunting task. This is due to not having a properly designed database, which can hold information including (but not limited to): contact information for all projects’ industry partners; all the proposed projects; all the projects that were proposed by industry partners; all the projects that were successfully completed; all the projects which are awarded with prizes during Capstone days; resource management (for inventory and procurement, and recovery at end of year). The research team for this challenge will be tasked with developing an innovative open-source data processing software able to produce a large set of reports.

Examples of reports might include: a list of all industry partners who have collaborated from date x to y; a list of all industry partners who were ranked positively by students; a list of all industry projects that require particular disciplinary engagement (i.e. mechanical, software, etc.).

The research team’s software should be available through web (i.e. a client-server software) and only changeable by the admin of the system (i.e. the client), however some small parts of the system should be available to others (i.e. the future capstone students). To further extend the project, a couple of data mining ideas can be included in the system. The research team for this project might be composed of individuals with an interest or specialization in software engineering and data science.
