Challenge Question
How can we develop tools and frameworks to help technology businesses that rely on face-to-face interactions to pivot in the current social-distancing environment?
Partner: TechConnex
Project Summary
As a member-driven, not-for-profit association, TechConnex provides members with better opportunities to create powerful business connections, hear more perspectives, have better conversations, grow their businesses and people, and lead their organizations to achieve even greater business success. Our programming includes monthly peer groups, “Lunch & Learn” programs, social networking events, and a mentoring series. Our peer groups cover every aspect of running a business, from CEO and CIO to marketing and sales, with topics directed by the members. With the COVID-19 pandemic and the implementation of social distancing, not only have our resources and programs shifted to accommodate these changes, but our 130 member companies have also had to adapt their practices and strategies, resulting in new, often unforeseen needs and opportunities for learning. Through this project, we are aiming to explore how our programming and resources can support our members in a post-COVID-19 society, by developing tools and frameworks to help technology businesses that rely on face-to-face interactions as they continue to shift to socially distanced strategies. Students interested in this project might have backgrounds in communications, business and marketing, web design and other tech-related fields, digital communication, human resources, and the social sciences.

Organizational Profile
TechConnex is a member-directed industry association focused on the cost-effective growth of tech businesses in the GTA. With 39 years of history and over 150 member companies, we provide a community of support for business developers, innovators, suppliers, and providers within the tech industry. We facilitate a variety of face-to-face peer groups on topics including marketing, business growth, and women in technology, and our “Lunch & Learn” sessions offer participants the opportunity to share best practices and business insights and to interact with people who are experiencing challenges similar to themselves. Through these and other events, we aim to provide a forum for our members to foster new ideas, learn, and see the world beyond their individual perspectives.
