New CERLAC Director Appointment

We are delighted to announce that Professor Danielle Robinson has been appointed CERLAC Director starting July 1. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Dance in the School of Arts, Media, Performance, and Design and is cross-appointed to the Graduate Programs in Theatre and Performance Studies as well as Communication and Culture. She is a dance scholar who researches the cross-cultural movement of Afro-Diasporic popular dances within the Americas. Professor Robinson is currently co-leading a collaborative, interdisciplinary research project in Bahia, Brazil, that explores the Festas Juninas and samba de roda, a dance and music complex with roots in Afro-Brazilian slave cultures, which was recently recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage. She will be the first CERLAC Director to be appointed from the School of Arts, Media, Performance, and Design (former Faculty of Fine Arts) and the first CERLAC Director from outside the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies (former Faculty of Arts). She is currently completing a term as CERLAC Associate Director.
