LAWG collected this material for its corporate research on Canada’s trade, aid and investment policies in Latin America from the 1970s to the 1990s. There are articles from a range of sources – major newspapers, the business press, churches and NGOs. The collection is an especially richsource of material on mining companies. LAWG published a number of papers on Canadian based companies such as then named INCO, Falconbridge, Brascan and Noranda.
At that time corporate research was a time consuming endeavour. To help others with this research LAWG published “A Guide to Corporate Research” written by Bob Carty in 1979. Also helpful for navigating the history of mining and other Canadian companies see the LAWG publication “Canadian Investment, Trade & Aid in Latin America”, LAWG LETTER, vol. vii, no. 1/2, May-August 1981.
The Corporation Files also include reports and briefs prepared by the Task Force on Churches and Corporate Responsibility (TCCR) which began in 1975. The Task Force was created by the Canadian mainline Christian churches to monitor the operations of specific corporations, especially with reference to investments in Chile and South Africa. In addition to the TCCR items included in the Corporation Files, additional information regarding TCCR (including their Annual Reports) can be found in Section I of the Resource Centre. The complete TCCR Archives can be found at the United Church Archives in Toronto.
