Speakers

Professor Alastair Irons

Professor Alastair Irons is Professor of Computer Science, Deputy Principal and Deputy Vice Chancellor at Abertay University in Scotland. Before coming to Abertay in July 2022 he was Academic Director for Digital Education at the University of Sunderland, having previously been the Dean for the Faculty of Technology. Prior to joining the University of Sunderland in 2008 he worked at ONE North East, Northumbria University and ICI having moved to the north east of England from Scotland after graduating in1984 from Edinburgh University. Alastair became a National Teaching Fellow in 2010. Alastair was a visiting scholar at the University of Cape Town in South Africa from 2013 – 2017 and is currently a visiting professor at the University of Johannesburg.
His research interests focus on digital education and digital pedagogies, but also on digital forensics and cybersecurity. His current research includes digital skills frameworks for students and academics, digital skills for all and digital poverty, as well as cybersecurity in the classroom and learning safely in the classroom of the future. Alastair has over 20 refereed journal publications and has over 40 conference papers in the last 5years. His recent book publications include a book on assessment and feedback in 2021 and an anthology of issues in higher education in a post covid world in 2022.
Alastair is currently Vice President (academic) of the BCS and is chair of the BCS Academy board (recently reelected for a second three year term), he also sits on BCS Council and BCS Trustees, is a member of the BCS Academic Accreditation Committee and is a founding trustee of the BCS Foundation. Whilst in the North East he was chair of the Newcastle Branch of the BCS and since moving to Dundee has been elected chair of the Tayside and Fife Branch. He is also currently the UK representative on IFIP and serves on the IFIP Board. esetting industry.

Dr. Genaro Virador Japos

Dr. Genaro Virador Japosis the first Filipino scholar to hold a distinction as holder of five doctoral degrees in Education, Management, Human Resource Management, Instructional System, and Organization Development. He is a regular member of the National Research Council of the Philippines Division of Social Sciences. A finalist of Metrobank Search for Outstanding Teacher, he has conducted trainings and conferences in the Philippines and 20 other countries. He holds a Professorial Chair in Business and Governance from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. He is a visiting professor of public and private universities.

Dr. Jude Kong

Dr. Jude Kong, a Professor in the Mathematics and Statistics Department at York University, is arenowned expert in artificial intelligence (AI) and its application in public health. As the foundingDirector of the Africa-Canada Artificial Intelligence and Data Innovation Consortium (ACADIC), hespearheads ground-breaking research in AI and data science. Dr. Kong also serves as the Executive Director of the Global South Artificial Intelligence for Pandemicand Epidemic Preparedness and Response Network (AI4PEP), contributing to global efforts incombating infectious diseases. Dr. Kong's research focuses on utilizing AI, mathematical modeling, and quantitative methods to aidgovernments and communities in preparing for and responding to emerging infectious diseases. Duringthe COVID-19 pandemic, he led an interdisciplinary team of over 52 researchers across nine Africancountries, leveraging AI to effectively manage the spread of the virus. His transformative work in AI and infectious disease management continues to make a profoundimpact globally.
With a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Alberta and an extensive academic background,including postdoctoral work at Princeton University and Rutgers University, Dr. Jude Kong remains atthe forefront of AI-driven approaches in public health.

Dr. Nurbiha A Shukor

Associate Professor Dr. Nurbiha A Shukor is an educational technologist, an Associate Professor from School of Education, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia for the past 10 years. She received her doctoral degree in Educational Technology and her research interest is on educational data mining, online learning and learning analytics. She is currently serving as the Deputy Director of Center for Advancement in Digital and Flexible Learning at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and entrusted to be the Chairman of Malaysia Public University e-Learning Council (MEIPTA)since 2020 until now. She served as the Exco for Science Education Working Group,Young Scientist Network (YSN), Academy of Sciences Malaysia from 2019 until 2021 and as the Secretary General in 2023. She has conducted various trainings and workshops locally and internationally related to designing online learning, MOOCs and Micro Credential. As for research, she headed more than 10 research grants both local and international research grants related to learning analytics and online learning. She has authored more than 100 publications, and graduated 5 PhD students under her supervision in the field of educational technology. Her recent book is published in Springer Lecture Notes for Educational Technology entitled Learning Spaces for the Next Generation.

Mr. Kelwin Tan

Mr. Kelwin Tan is a dedicated scholar with a solid academic foundation. He holds a master’s degree in information systems from Melbourne University and
is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Computing at Sunway University. His research is focused on blockchain adoption models, with a particular emphasis on enhancing existing models and establishing benchmarks for blockchain adoption within the Malaysian industry. Kelwin's work aims to drive the integration of blockchain technology across various sectors in Malaysia..

Professor Glenda Crosling

Professor Glenda Crosling is Head of the Centre for Higher Education Research,leading the university in research and scholarly activities related to higher education development. Professor Crosling was previously Dean of Academic Enhancement at the university, and inaugural Director of Education Quality and Innovation at Monash University Malaysia. Glenda has been awarded the prestigious Jeffrey Cheah Travel Grant to visit Harvard University, USA and is an active member of educational quality panels internationally, including in Australia, Malaysia and Oman. She has been visiting scholar in universities in China, Thailand,Singapore and Hong Kong, and has chaired Expert Panels for the development of national guidelines for the Malaysian Qualifications Agency. Glenda was also an Executive Committee Member and Chair, Education Sub Committee for the Malaysia Australia Business Council from2009 to 2017. Her authored and edited books, chapters and journal articles are well-cited, and she has been invited as conference keynote and plenary speaker at international conferences.She has undertaken large scale and international and ASEAN-focused projects funded by the British Council (2017 and 2018) and UNESCO-UNEVOC (2020).

Dr. Angela Lee

Professor Dr. Angela Lee Siew Hoong is an Associate Dean (Employability) and Head of Department Computing and Information Systems at the School of Engineering and Technology, Sunway University, Malaysia. Prof Angela Lee has been developing data science curriculum more than 10 years and she is the key person to introduce Data Science degree at Sunway University. She was recently awarded the National Outstanding Educator Award and SAS Global Forum Distinguished Educator Award for Asia Pacific Category. She regularly speaks at data science conferences. Angela has developed many innovative ways to use analytics and data science tools from the most elementary level to advanced analytics. She teaches Social Media Analytics, Visual Analytics, Advanced Analytics and Business Intelligence and has authored many published international journals in the area of churn analytics, sentiment analysis and predictive analytics.

Dr. Munir Shuib

Dr. Munir Shuib, a former Associate Professor from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM),is Chief Consultant at DRM Learning Consultancy, a consulting firm offering capacity building programmes and proofreading services. During his service at USM, he was appointed as Deputy Dean, and Deputy Director as well as Chief Editor for the Bulletin of Higher Education Research. He has published numerous books, chapters, and journal articles on topics related to English language teaching and learning and higher education.

Ms. Siti Norbaya Azizan

Ms. Siti Norbaya Azizan is a research member at the Centre for Higher Education Research (CHER), Sunway University, Malaysia. She has various experience as project research assistant, social research officer, and article reviewer in a wide range of educational research areas, including software testing, distance education, mobile learning, online learning, teaching and learning, higher education, and community engagement. She has authored and coauthored more than 30 scientific publications, including articles in ISI and Scopus-indexed journals, international research reports, and edited book chapters.
